Weather impact on Thursday, as heavier rain is moving in again

Colder north and milder south, but all will be soaked this week as more rainy weather moves into Alabama. Check out the video prediction for the latest. WINTER STORM NORTH, RAIN HERE Weather is freezing in northern Mississippi and much of central and western Tennessee, but most of Alabama (with a limited exception near the Alabama-Tennessee state line) will only experience cooler, rainy weather. An arctic cold front slowly shifting south of Birmingham is leading the way for colder air overnight into Wednesday: just not quite cold enough for freezing or frozen precipitation as another band of rain forms across the state. For Lauderdale and Limestone Counties in North Alabama – as well as most of Southern and Middle Tennessee. If you’re traveling north early Wednesday, be aware that the bridges north of Athens and Florence, Alabama to Tennessee can be slippery. Temperatures are soaring above freezing in those areas and also in Middle Tennessee, so any icy drive to Nashville should be cleared by Wednesday afternoon. Expect about 0.25 to 0.5 inches of rain by Wednesday morning when the temperature settles in the upper 30s and low 40s by sunrise. A northerly wind will keep it cool throughout Wednesday: light drizzle, low clouds and the day’s warmest temperatures will only reach the high 40s and low 50s. The cool, damp pattern persists through Thursday, and that happens to be our next IMPACT DAY: heavy rain on a cold, harsh winter day. Temperatures aren’t bouncing much Thursday: They’re hovering in the 40s for most of the day with a brisk wind and torrential rain totaling more than an inch across most of Central Alabama. We’re not expecting a frigid trip in Alabama on Thursday: just cold, wet weather. Seven Day Forecast A fresh gust of arctic air will blow into Alabama on Thursday night, and it’ll be downright cold on Friday and Saturday! The atmosphere dries up Friday morning, and a northerly wind of around 10-20 mph adds to the wintry feel: wind chill in the 20’s early, still in the 30’s/low 40’s in the afternoon. Expect a frost down in the 20’s Friday night through Saturday morning and we’re finally getting a dry weekend with partly to mostly sunny skies! Both days are looking dry and cool but Saturday is likely to have a little more sunshine than Sunday. Next week begins dry and mild: highs in the 60’s and lows in the 40’s and 50’s. The next chance of rain (or storms) is towards the end of next week (roughly February 8-10).
