Casino gambling was legalized in Nevada in 1931. Silver State Casinos have never won more from players than they have in the past year.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) today announced December 2022 and full year results for the state’s gaming establishments. The NGCB’s statistical records include gaming revenue from the state’s licensed casinos, sports book, parimutuel betting and race books, poker rooms and online poker rake, and gaming terminals in restaurants and taverns.

Gross gaming revenue (GGR) surpassed $1.31 billion in December, marking the 22nd consecutive month that gaming surpassed $1 billion. The December shipment represented an increase of 14.3% over the previous year.

Slots accounted for $803.5 million and table games and sportsbook won about $510.9 million. As of December 2021, slot wins increased by 2% and table games increased by more than 40%.

The year-end finale was fueled by the Las Vegas Strip, which grossed more than $814.1 million. December 2022 was the best month ever in terms of GGR. The $814.1 million was up 25% — or about $163.4 million — from December 2021.

record year

While December was the best month ever for the Las Vegas Strip, the NGCB report’s storyline is that the Nevada casino industry is healthier than ever. Though inflation and increased overhead eat up some of the record earnings, casinos continue to thrive as the pandemic-related pent-up demand for travel, business and leisure shows no sign of ending anytime soon.

The $14.84 billion won by Nevada’s casinos and other gaming licenses last year is nearly double what the state industry will gain in 2020. Some say the rapid recovery from the coronavirus shows the gaming industry’s resilience .

Nevada’s best EGR year to date came just in 2021, when the state EGR totaled $13.42 billion. Last year, the previous record was easily beaten by 10.6% — or $1.42 billion.

Ahead of 2021, the state’s best GGR year was set in 2007, when gaming revenue totaled approximately $12.85 billion.
