#2 Men win 7-2 win over #6 Bantams as squash shares with Trinity

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men’s and women’s squash teams shared non-conference matches with Trinity Sunday afternoon from Penn Squash Center, with the men winning 7-2 and the women a win by the No. 1 team in the College Squash Association (CSA) rankings.

Like yesterday against Yale, the men won the first five games of the day, with Dillon Hang recovering from two games down and Saksham Choudhry earning a career No. 47 win in the early highs.

Nathan Cow started the day with a win in four games at No. 1 and Abdelrahman Dweek That was followed by a win in four games at No. 8. Huang clinched his third 2-0 comeback win in the past two seasons to cap the first-round win, dropping just six points overall in dominant fourth and fifth games .

Nick Spizzirri put on a bagel, the fastest of the day for the men, in the first game of his 3-0 win that lasted just 36 minutes. Choudhary dropped his first game but responded in a resounding manner to win the match for the Quakers.

Trinity eventually cracked the scorer list to close out the second wave, however Roger Baddur grabbed a win in four games at No. 3 for a 6-1. Just as was the case with Huang, freshman Omar Hafez went back two games in his match, then rallied violently to claim his first five-game win of the season.

In the women’s game, the Quakers put up a tough fight against the top-ranked Bantams, who have now won 25 of 26 regular-season games since the start of last season.
Avni Anand increased her second place match to four games and went 17-15 in a second marathon game. Anand’s co-captain Ashley Manning also pushed her fourth-placed match to four games. The No. 5 match with Natasha Pensler lasted five games, with the freshman recovering from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits.

Penn’s Ivy-League regular-season final is next Saturday at 1 p.m. against archrival Princeton from Penn Squash Center.
