Green comet swings by
A green comet swoops past Earth for the first time in tens of thousands of years. Here in the Northern Hemisphere we should see it most clearly this week.
It will be within 26 million miles of Earth around Wednesday, bright and best seen in the hours before sunrise. A week later it will be near Mars, a good landmark for sky watchers.

Rural state: At the end of 2022, 43 Pennsylvania communities lost their status as urban areas based on new criteria from the Census Bureau. Federal aid could be at stake. father has the third largest rural population in the country.
police beats: The caning and arrest of Tire Nichols in Memphis, Tennessee has sparked state and federal investigations into police brutality. Five officers were charged with murder. A video of the arrest shocked the country.

Beyond the bills: Bed Bath & Beyond says it has defaulted on its loans and does not have sufficient funds to repay the debt. It is already planning to close stores and is considering filing for bankruptcy.
Sport Center: A 23,000-square-foot indoor athletic center is planned for York County on the site of the former Central High School stadium.
New places: A grocery store and two retail buildings will be constructed on Carlisle Pike in Silver Spring Township. Down the road three warehouses have been approved for lots near Cumberland Valley High School.
Appropriate deniers: Republican lawmakers, who have promoted electoral conspiracy theories and falsely claimed the 2020 presidential election result was rigged, are overseeing electoral politics in Pennsylvania and Arizona.
Other election days: Tomorrow’s special election to fill the 27th District Senate seat is the first of four legislative periods to be decided over the next two weeks. The other three special elections, held on February 7, are seats in the House of Representatives that will end the debate over who controls the chamber.

Drag Shows: Republican Senator Doug Mastriano, who recently lost a campaign for governor, filed a sponsorship memo last week saying he plans to introduce legislation that would ban drag shows in many places.
