Pittsburgh, Pa. – Pennsylvania American Water announced the start of construction to install approximately 4,100 feet of a new water main canon castle to improve operational safety and fire protection for local residents.
The cost of these system improvements is approx $1.2 million. The water lines are replaced with new ductile iron lines. The company will replace water lines along:
McEwen Street between West Howard St And Unionstrasse And Gladner street
Hawthorne Street between Bluff Street and Belmont Avenue
Crews will work weekdays between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m Traffic restrictions will apply during the construction period. The Company expects to complete the installation of the water main, including the connection of all service lines to the new mains, this spring, with final restoration and paving planned for the fall.
This infrastructure modernization project is not only an important investment in public health and safety. It also helps support the economic health of the communities we serve. Pennsylvania American Water approximately invested $490 million in 2022 alone to improve our water and wastewater treatment and plumbing systems and support more than 7,000 jobs.
During construction, customers may experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water and/or low water pressure.
