Weather Forecast for South Central Pennsylvania; Groundhog Day and an Arctic Front

NOW THE W. L NEWS 8 STORM TEAM FORECAST EST WITH METEOROLOGIST TJ SPRINGER. IT ALWAYS SEEMS LIKE JANUARY. SUCH A LONG MONTH. I DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT I FEEL THAT IT WAS PASSED BY QUITE QUICKLY AND NOW WE’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO FEBRUARY AND NORMALLY THE TEMPERATURES CAN STILL BE COLD. WE CAN STILL GET SNOW ON AVERAGE, 9.1 INCHES IS WHAT WE SEE HERE AT A Y. TEMPERATURES DEFINITELY WARM UP ALL MONTH, BACK INTO THE 40S FOR AVERAGE. IT WAS WARM THIS WINTER AND IT LOOKS THAT THE WARMTH TREND WILL CONTINUE INTO FEBRUARY. SO OUT HERE, SNOW RESISTANCE, LOOKS LIKE THE CHANCES ARE NOT THAT HIGH, AT LEAST IN THE SHORT TERM. HERE’S OUR LIVE LOOK IN HARRISBURG. WE CAN SEE THE CLOUDS. WE SAW SOME SNOW TODAY THANKS TO A DISTURBANCE WORKING THROUGH THE AREA. A COLD FRONT THROUGH. SET THE STAGE FOR SOME OF THESE LIGHT FLURRIES AND LIGHTER SHOWS FLYING THROUGH SOME OF THE COUNTIES OF FRANKLIN ADAMS, YORK AND LANCASTER. SO DON’T BE SHOCKED IF YOU DRIVE OUT THIS AFTERNOON AND DON’T FLY A FEW FLAKES THINGS ZOOM OUT. TO OUR SOUTH AND WEST OUT MORE MOISTURE. AND THIS ALSO LIFTS TOWARDS THE MIDDLE ATLANTIC OCEAN AND THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY. ULTIMATELY, IT WILL BRING US THE POTENTIAL FOR A LITTLE MORE LIGHTER SNOW WHILE WE RIDE THROUGH TONIGHT. THE TEMPERATURES ARE BELOW FREEZING HERE IN THE 1930’S. IN SHAMOKIN WE HAVE 38 IN THE CAPITAL IN YORK AND IT IS 36 AND LANDSBURG WE HAVE 39 IN GETTYSBURG. SO DEFINITELY GET THE JACKET BECAUSE WHEN YOU TAKE THE WIND INTO ACCOUNT IT FEEL SLIGHTLY COLDER OUT THERE. It’s lively. WE HAVE TEMPERATURES THAT WE REALLY WANT TO SEE HOW THEY MOVE FROM THE MID-TO-HIGH 30’s to around 40’s with those persistent rain or snow showers. THEN OVERNIGHT WATCH FOR MORE HIT OR MISS, SHOWERS AND FLURRIES. WE DO NOT EXPECT ACCUMULATION ACTIONS HOWEVER, BUT QUICK COATING IS AN OPTION IF YOU EXCITE A HEavier SHOWER THAN TOMORROW. WE ARE BACK IN THE MID AND UPPER 30’S. WE START WITH SOME CLOUDS. THEN WE WILL SEE SOME SUNSHINE DEVELOPING DURING THE LATE MORNING TILL AFTERNOON. HERE PICTURE. WE CAN SEE THE CLOUDS WITH US. LEAVE THESE FLURRIES DURING LIGHT SHOWERS. Then we have this wave as we move through the early hours of our Wednesday. IT IS LIGHT. BUT AGAIN, IF IT SNOWES HEAVY ENOUGH WE COULD SEE A FAST LITTLE COATING WHILE DRIVING LATE EARLY WEDNESDAY TODAY. THEN EVERYTHING CLEARS UP WE START SEEING SOME DRY AIR FROM THE NORTHWEST. AND THIS ALLOWS OUR CLOUD COVERAGE TO CLEAR. AND WE WILL SEE MORE SUNSHINE AS WE GO THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. THEN WE EXPECT ANOTHER STORM SYSTEM TO MOVE IN ON THURSDAY THAT WILL STAY UNTIL OUR SOUTH MURZEL DAY. WE SEE A BIT OF SUNSHINE WITH HIGHS AROUND THE 40’S BUT THEN WE START TAPING MUCH COLDER ALTITUDE, FALLING BACK INTO THE 20’S, WITH LOWS ALMOST DETAIL. I AM SURE SOME OF US WILL PUT IN DETAILS OVERNIGHT FRIDAY INTO EARLY SATURDAY. WE ARE IN THE TEEN ON SUNDAY MORNING, ANOTHER SYSTEM BRINGS THE POSSIBILITY OF SOME RAIN AND SNOW BUT IT LOOKS THAT IT WILL NOT HOLD THE COLD EXITS LAST. THEN WE GO BACK TO THE 40’S
